three shots of the week

April 10, 2008

Picture of moon
For this shot and most of the shots of the weeks to come im focusing on lines and how they can lead people to where i want them to look. The first shot im focusing on the moon and its many interior lines. The gentle curve that the moon has in the top right corner of my shot gives it a feeling of gentleness. the rigid lines and fast moving life around the moon gives it the feeling of reality and even though life still moves fast around us, theres still beauty in the simple things. Colors are very contrasting with the dark blue night sky and the beautiful white moon illuminating the sky for the evening. The focus was not obviously on color but more on the lines in the shot. Overall im very pleased with the shot and how big my subject was in comparision to the overall framing. This was a lucky catch for the moon being so big too and i just so happened to have all my camera stuff on me. Im very pleased with the outcome.

Gabby

This shot was a focus on more of how i could use liones in the background to draw attention to my subject. Now as you see i put my subject in the corner where most people start reading a picture so automatically you begin with the image of the girl. then as you travel down the fram you notice her eyes and how well they pop out of the background and how her face and hand are the attraction of the shot. The gentle curve and the end of her nose doesnt send you off into the rest of the shot but more down the rest of her untill you reach the bottom where the hand draws you back up to her face again. The blue background was a great way to make her pop right out of the background without the proper lighting due to none of the colors match and she just flows with the shot. Overall im very very pleased with this shot. The main purpose was to actually show my girlfriend this beautiful little girl that i work with at my church and i was overwhelmed with how the shot turned out. The lighting was just superb and the exposure time needed just a little adjustment and a little bit brightening but overall i was very happy with this shot.

The open Door

this shot was me being bored and working on my composition in the dark one day after class. The lines of the door leaves you wondering whats happened and the sense of beign left hanging was really what i was striving for. The subtle arch but rather sharp arch that is the door really just kinda maks me mad because i cant get rid of it, the line doesnt flow and and causes most of the suspense. The Square that is the light switch really attrachts attention due to its diagonal line pointing down causign teh viewer to be attrached to it. Over all i was very pleased with the shot but if there was someway i could have just excluded that line and made another source of focus then the shot would have be most exceptional.

Dan and His Book

This shot i was not really striving for composition but more avoiding mergers due to i was later going to threshold the shot and use it in a graphic for class. The expression on Dans Face is lost and doesnt draw atention not to the face but more the book. the book was the center of attention and it doesnt serve much of a good center of attention. Colors are very well done t hey really really pop in that background and i was quite pleased. overall this wasnt my favorite shot but due to my over run scheduale i dont have much time to shoot right now so this had to do.

Critique of Fluent Motion

The main focus of this shoot wasn’t to show poverty or anything like that, I’m just trying to show life at a peaceful moment unlike the world around us at this current moment. My focal point is the peace and tranquility in the world around us. The main focus is the water coming from the pipe and the nice gentle curve that is made from the water. The curve gives the entire shot a gentle sort of feel to it while at the same time there’s still this motion moving appearance to it making the picture still fun to look at. This photo is much different that anyone else’s in the fact that it actually portrays a calm yet moving subject. If I could change anything about the shot I probably wouldn’t, the black and white conversion was a great transfer and the sharpness is rather amazing. The fact still is, I’m not so convinced that this was the smart picture to turn in for the gallery. There really needed to be a different shot for this one I feel and that the class a whole may have cheated themselves out of a bit of shooting time so I mean there’s no really reason I couldn’t attempt more shots but there just wasn’t enough time to set up for models and or a ride to the location or even just a simple light or two to shoot with. Overall the shot didn’t turn out to bad for a fast quick shot. There needed to be more time.
