About

My name is Dana Collins, I’m a senior at Canyon Del Oro High School in Tucson, AZ. I’m originally from Lancaster, California and moved here to Tucson, AZ in 1998. Photography is my favorite form of art but, I do enjoy drumming for marching bands and drum and bugle corps. I’ve played drums for about 10 years now and I don’t plan on stopping. I’ve marched for only the high school drumline but I do paln on marching for the U of A’s Pride of Arizona marching band before moving on out to California for school.

My most inspirational artist is a photographer that tours the Middle East and take photos of all the culture over there. He has been featured multiple times in National Geographic and is famous for his shot called, “Afgan Girl”. His name is Steve McCurry and his work inspires me every time I pick up my camera I think of what Steve would think of featuring in this shot? My favorite type of art that I have been absolutely consumed with is black and white photography. Whenever I get behind my camera I think of what do I want to feature in this shot and what will be the most pleasing to the eye. My preferred audience is everyone that can comprehend art and find that getting inside photographers heads through his interesting.

I have recently finished my final job for the summer season as a photographer and have come out of my first year of freelance sports photography with a nice gross of 1,000 dollars. I do plan on moving out of sports and start moving into the world of art and I would really love to shoot for a gallery some day. I use the knowledge from this class everytime I get behind the glass of my camera. I’ve always stood by thinking about a shot for at least 2 minutes before I click down that shutter button. If one goes out and just starts shooting without thinking of his lines, angles, colors, and lighting, then there’s nothing but luck coming through that shutter. It important to use your head in every shot you take to make sure you get a little portal to your head and feelings in every shot you take. Its important that someone can read a photographers message because there normally are no words in photography just a lot of symbols.
